Irssi is a terminal IRC client that's spectacularly powerful, albeit not a tool for beginners. Because IRC is a text-based protocol, having a text-based client doesn't hold you back at all. Irssi features many logging option, lots of different automation features, tab completion for pretty much everything, and many pluggable themes and scripts.
Text mode IRC client that can trigger a command on an event I'm a bit of an IRC addict, and I tend to appear online most of the time because I use a bouncer. I would like to get notifications to my phone when I'm mentioned on IRC. Many other IRC clients use similar methods. In graphical chat clients you may have to tick a box called 'SSL' or 'TLS'. IMPORTANT: Some IRC clients will not accept self-signed certificates by default (e.g: mIRC 7.59+) and you will recieve errors such as SSL certificate verify failed. Almost always the IRC client has an option to still trust. Textual is the world's most popular application for interacting with Internet Relay Chat (IRC) chatrooms on OS X. First appearing in 2010, Textual has since evolved and matured into the top IRC client for OS X; relied on and trusted by thousands of people.
Textual 6 delivers performance unmatched by any of its predecessors when running on OS X ElCapitan or later.
This is accomplished by laying out and rendering channel content on separate processes usingWebKit2.

It is no longer possible to select more than eight (8) channels at one time in the 'Channel List' window.
Incomplete file transfers are now resumed when the person sending the file supports this.
Improved technique for collecting channel information to reduce number of 'Max SendQ' disconnects.
Improved support for connecting to irssi-proxy.
Improved reliability and speed of playing back messages from previous session.
The Client Certificate section of Server Properties now includes the SHA-256 fingerprint of the certificate.
The commands amsg and ame no longer send messages to queries (private messages).
